# Add Layers

The layers displayed on the map will be listed in the Layers Box. This is where the user can create and manage their layers. The default system layers displayed are Wells, Grids & Base Map.&#x20;

{% hint style="info" %}
Note: Any added user layers will ONLY be available in the Layers Box for the current session. If you launch StackDX Intel after logging out or closing/refreshing the session the layers will not be present.
{% endhint %}

### Add Company Assets Layers

Wells and Mineral Rights layers can be created for a specific company and displayed on the map. These can be created by adding a layer via the Layers Box.&#x20;

1. Click the **+** option in the top right corner of the Layers Box

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/5DellekSheOKhIP82fhG" alt="" width="288"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

2. Select a Company from the dropdown list

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/QgmLExDdkZxu1iNuoRV1" alt="" width="504"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

{% hint style="info" %}
Tip: Find the company you are looking for easier by filtering the list. Type full or partial company names and any matches will be displayed.&#x20;

![](/files/JMZKvOePK5nBPY4oIMJ6)
{% endhint %}

3. Select a Layer Type (ie. All Wells, All Mineral Rights, etc.)

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/Gh5ffxjRH23Dk8pu80ng" alt="" width="502"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

4. Click **Add Layer**

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/ae4EMVVWZIbycnOXvkIq" alt="" width="501"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

The company wells & mineral rights layer will  be created and displayed in the Layers Box and on the map.&#x20;

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/IWh1fhOJGNFWzsPY0ALH" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

### Create Area Filters

If you would like to narrow your datasets and layers to a specific area there is the ability to apply an Area Filter which will filter your bottom table and layer results to be within your specified area. In the Layers Box users can create and apply a new Area Filter.&#x20;

#### Add Area Filter

1. Click the **+** option in the top right corner of the Layers Box

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/xMkME7URmh1bGN2vo8vQ" alt="" width="288"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

2. Click **Create Area Filter**

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/8ItDV5kP9XjnpJUZlXxg" alt="" width="504"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

{% hint style="info" %}
Note: Area Filters can also be created from the **Filters** option. Click **New Area Filter**.&#x20;

![](/files/kJRUdCrkURR2UJwMKrYo)
{% endhint %}

The 'Define New Area' dialog will be displayed.&#x20;

3. Enter **Area Name**

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/4PYtcd4gCcSVvqJyswul" alt="" width="264"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

4. Click **Begin Drawing**

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/u52GMMYtHkesOfr85lnD" alt="" width="264"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

5. Point & click on the map to draw the polygon area

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/cSwcnmfdAhq3SLsMc9GM" alt="" width="523"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

6. Finalize the polygon area by either clicking on an existing vertex or double clicking

{% hint style="info" %}
Note: If you need to re-create the polygon area click **Redraw**.
{% endhint %}

7. Click **Create & Filter**

<figure><img src="/files/B9hyQ43sOizR0oiTxIIb" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The Area Filter will be created and will be automatically applied to the datasets. All the data displayed in the bottom table and on the map for the selected data tabs will be filtered to the specified area.&#x20;

{% hint style="info" %}
Note: The Area Filter will NOT be applied to any created Company Asset Layers.&#x20;
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="/files/fURPlP85lRcuNdK67aTc" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

#### **Select/Deselect Area Filters**

The Area Filters can be selected/deselected in the **Filters** option. If the Area Filter is deselected all the selected data tabs will be reset with no filter applied.&#x20;

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/g3suJDl3dV575YktB6ae" alt="" width="467"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

#### **Display/Hide Area Filter Polygon Layers**

The area polygon layer will be in the Layers Box where the user has the ability to display or hide the area polygon on the map. If the 'View' icon is present for the layer it will be displayed on the map. There will be a 'Hidden' icon (has line through it) if the layer is currently not displayed on the map.&#x20;

{% hint style="info" %}
Note: Hiding the area filter polygon from the map will only remove the visual from the map and will NOT remove the area filter from the datasets.&#x20;
{% endhint %}

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/B2Xbk94i2IHJCFd6nIjX" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Area Filter Polygon displayed </p></figcaption></figure></div>

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/W8xpwfCNLPbu7t809eoE" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Area Filter Polygon hidden</p></figcaption></figure></div>

#### Delete Area Filters

The Area Filters can be deleted in the **Filters** option or in the Layers Box. Click the 'Delete' icon to remove the area filter. If applied when deleted the selected data tabs will be reset with no filter applied.&#x20;

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/jR3ZvHFB1nOVxGS2r7i4" alt="" width="467"><figcaption><p>Delete Area Filter in <strong>Filters</strong> option</p></figcaption></figure></div>

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/52f9hTjF3x4XfPGcck0P" alt="" width="287"><figcaption><p>Delete Area Filter in Layers Box</p></figcaption></figure></div>

See [Filters](/dashboards/activity-map/filters.md) section for more information on filters.&#x20;

### All Wells

The Wells layer is a system layer that will be displayed by default. If you did delete the Wells layer it can be re-added to the Layers Box and map.&#x20;

1. Click the **+** option in the top right corner of the Layers Box

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/puY9TqwtDFmIrdKXNhOR" alt="" width="286"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

2. Click **Add**

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/v0jW93I0LCqd3WyiL5fP" alt="" width="460"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

The Wells layer will be re-added to the Layers Box and display on the map.

If the Wells layer is present in the Layers Box and map then in the 'Add Layer' dialog it will state that the layer is already added.&#x20;

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help-intel.stackdx.com/dashboards/activity-map/layers-box/add-layers.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
